What is a skirt/skirting?
It can a defined as a solid band of horizontal wood members which are installed around the deck perimeter to conceal the exposed ends of joists and deck boards. Another definition that can a given is - a finishing element at the baseboard of the stairway, around the circular perimeter or posts.
Introduction of wood deck skirting - A wood deck has a range of accessories like benches, planters, privacy fences, railing, gates, skirting, trap doors, and flooring patterns. Deck Skirting is one of the accessories of a wood deck. It serves the purpose of closing the open space under the bridge and preventing the animals and children from entering the open space and also gives an entirely new look to the floor as opposed to the traditional looking layers.
More about Wood Deck Skirting - Deck skirts serve the purpose of covering the open area under the decks especially in case of raised decks a constructed. The open area beneath the raised decks can serve as a storage space for items such as lawn mowers or other garden tools. Some may prefer covering it with an easy to open the gate to get access to the storage space. A barrier may also be constructed to completely close the area except for general deck inspection and maintenance purposes.
However, if you prefer to hide the area thoroughly, deck skirting serves the purpose. Usually made of wood, it is an inexpensive yet attractive way is using lattice in the skirting. A mesh is a checkered piece of flimsy, beautiful and affordable woo. It can a painted or stained to match the color of the deck. Flowers, trees, surrounding the deck skirting can be high in enhancing the general look of a skirting. Flower pots or benches in front of the skirting will also incorporate the deck and the screen into the overall design of the yard.
Project 4b Skirting Board with end-fitting lights - Another variation from the traditional deck skirting is a skirting board with small plastic end fittings instead of using just the bare fiber. These end fittings serve to diffuse the lights so that a larger, less sharp spots of views can a dotted along the skirting board. A combination of the two approaches can a done by alternating the diffuse lights of the end fittings with the sharper spots of light emanating from the bare fiber ends.
