Rosemary Feurer will present the program Uprisings: Illinois Miners Revolt! in the Westville Library Community Room. Have you heard stories of the miners strikes that led to 3 people being shot in Grape Creek in the late 1800's? Some and meet Rosemary and let her help you discover the role of miners throughout the state, incorporating the lost history of African-American miners, and the first successful miners uprising in 1897-1898. Also, learn how downstate miners during 1894-1935 created an oppositional culture that led to an uprising against their union, mining corporations, and state and federal officials. Mining is a part of our history, come and learn more about what happened during those turbulent times. Please call the library at 267-3170 to register. Admission is free and open to all audiences.
